It’s National Volunteer Month – Thank You!

by | Apr 15, 2024

Held in April every year, National Volunteer Month is a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions of volunteers. So we’d like to take this month to celebrate the folks who not only keep the River of Time organized and operationally sound but allow this amazing organization to grow and prosper. These would be the 78 volunteers who bring their talents, gifts and energy to support the events, programs and tours offered throughout the year.

Docents & Event Volunteers

Our docents are some of the more visible of our volunteer group. They not only dedicate a minimum of two four-hour shifts each month to tours, but participate in an extensive training program and continuing education. Most also take on other roles, as well serving on committees and supporting fundraising events.

Events volunteers are called on to help with the various activities necessary to plan, coordinate, and operate our many fundraising events. A dedicated crew took over the labor intensive Holiday Mart fundraiser last year and again hit the ground running in January to begin executing Holiday Mart 2024. Countless hours are spent sourcing, moving, sorting, and pricing the thousands of items that are displayed for the five weeks of this popular community event.

Our Board

As a non-profit organization, we are governed by a ten-member board of directors made up of museum supporters and community members. In addition to monthly meetings to review finances and operations, many members of the board are also very active as volunteers supporting fundraisers and serving on committees. The board has the fiduciary responsibility for the organization and through the staff Executive Director maintains the operations according to museum best practices.

Thank You! We Couldn’t Do It Without You

The River of Time Volunteers are integral to the fabric of the organization. They make up our Development, Program and exhibits committees. They serve as docents, greeters and cleaners. You’ll find them busy helping to check folks in at events, tending the bar, or tearing down the tables. Wherever we have a need, our volunteers step up.

We’ve mounted a temporary exhibit in the Museum/Library lobby to celebrate National Volunteer Month. We are grateful to each and every one for their work, but more importantly for their enthusiasm and energy that helps to make everything we do that much more fun!
