The Fountain Hills Theater has never been the same since Ross Collins found his way to the community 22 years ago.
While the theater was established in 1986, it was 2002 when Ross was asked to become the youth artistic director of the newly-established non-profit entity, Fountain Hills Youth Theater. Within the space that once housed the Fountain Hills Library, Ross tirelessly continues to play the roles of mentor, teacher and theatrical director to thousands of kids, teens and young adults.
Ross’ award-winning programing teaches not only the skills behind the “Imaginary Fourth Wall” but life skills like self-confidence, public speaking and time management. In 2003, Ross founded the theatrical program, YABOY, an acronym for “Young Actors Benefiting Other Youth.” Its mission is to teach young actors that their talents can have a positive impact on their peers. Countless youths have learned how to help young people address difficult issues and make them aware of helpful resources. Homelessness, runaways, teen suicide, eating disorders and bullying are among the poignant topics addressed by a YABOY production.
A graduate of Michigan State University, “Mr. C” himself is an actor, appearing in numerous stage productions as well as in movies, television shows and commercials. Due in no small part to Ross’ longevity and creativity, FHYT remains a vibrant and energetic program devoted to the needs and talents of the town’s youths.
