Happy New Year!

2024 is already shaping up to be a busy and exciting year for the River of Time. Coming out of a wildly successful Holiday Mart 2023, thanks to an amazing crew of volunteer “elves”, we are making preparations to launch new programs, engaging exhibits and entertaining events.

Current Gallery Exhibit

First up is our newest artist now exhibiting in the River of Time Art Gallery. Be sure to drop by before February 29 to view the outstanding paintings by Hopi artist Travis Tubinaghtewa. The exhibit is titled: “We Are Still Here – Sharing the Hopi Story”. Mr. Tubinaghtewa is a registered member of the Hopi Tribe, a painter and a Kachina carver. His work is currently sold at the Heard Museum and his works will also be priced for sale at the River of Time. A Tempe resident, Travis is a graduate of Fine Arts at Phoenix College.

Travis’ father is Buddy Tubinaghtewa, a famous Kachina carver. It’s been said that Travis Tubinaghtewa is on track to becoming a unique component in the Hopi art world. He grew up in what he describes as “two worlds” receiving a formal education in the city, but also able to travel to participate in ancient Hopi ceremonies. His work is a blend of modern art practices and Native American imagery with respectful nods to his background.

2023 Members Meeting…in 2024!

All River of Time members are invited to the 2023 Annual Meeting to be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 beginning at 4:00 p.m. A bit unconventional, but our Board of Directors decided to hold the meeting in January after the Holiday Mart Fundraiser in order to offer members a chance to explore the River of Time and experience the exhibits without the holiday crowds. In addition to a brief business meeting, the afternoon will feature stations throughout the museum where members can engage with docents about the stories represented by the exhibits. Light refreshments will be available. The event is free to members, but reservations are required by January 21. Register here.

Winter Fundraiser Coming Soon!

Save the date for the River of Time first ever Winter fundraiser, “Saddle Up” to be held at the Fountain Hills Community center on Saturday, March 16. The event is shaping up to be an entertaining, fun evening beginning at 4:00 p.m. with country dance lessons and cocktails. Check the website in the upcoming weeks for details.

Also in the works as we move into Spring is a celebration of World Water Day on March 22 – more details coming soon – and the annual Hall of Fame investiture Dinner on March 27.

Fort McDowell Yavapai Tours Selling Out!

Tickets for our extremely popular River of Time/Fort McDowell Yavapai Tours are selling quickly. Our January dates are sold out, as is the February 29 date. So pick one of these remaining four dates for the Winter/Spring season and buy your tickets now to avoid disappointment! Click or tap on the date to buy your tickets –  February 8, March 14, March 28, or April 11.

Information on these and all upcoming River of Time programs and events can be found on the website at

As we begin another year, I want to acknowledge the folks who keep the River of Time relevant and functioning, our volunteer corps of over forty! From the docents who dedicate a minimum of two days per month, to the folks we see annually at the Holiday Mart, our small staff of one and a half would not be able to offer all of the amazing programs and events without the dedication of these dear souls!

Patience, dedication, spirit and humor are the qualities I continue to see in these wonderful people. It’s truly a privilege to partner with each and every one of you and I look forward to continuing our journey together.

We be happy to welcome any members interested in joining this fun group. Our Volunteer Coordinator, Mary Endorf, would be happy to answer any questions and help you to find your right place with us. For more information on volunteer opportunities, you can read more on our Volunteers page and contact Mary Endorf at

Wishing you a Happy, Healthy 2024!
